About Walmart Self-Checkout Operations
Self-checkout technology has transformed the Walmart front end — rows of automated stations now handle a massive share of daily transactions while freeing traditional registers for customers who prefer full-service checkout. Self-Checkout Hosts are the human presence that makes this technology work smoothly, assisting customers who struggle with scanning, clearing age-restricted item alerts, troubleshooting payment errors, and maintaining the watchful awareness that prevents both honest mistakes and intentional theft at unattended stations.
Position Overview
Walmart is hiring Self-Checkout Hosts to monitor and assist customers at self-checkout stations in Supercenter and Neighborhood Market locations. You will help shoppers navigate the self-checkout interface, resolve scanning errors, approve age-restricted purchases, and maintain a welcoming presence that keeps the self-checkout area running smoothly and efficiently throughout your shift.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor multiple self-checkout stations simultaneously, responding to customer assistance alerts and system error prompts.
- Help customers scan difficult items, enter produce codes, apply coupons, and complete payment transactions at the kiosk.
- Approve age-restricted purchases for alcohol, tobacco, and certain OTC medications requiring associate verification.
- Troubleshoot self-checkout hardware issues including jammed receipt printers, unresponsive screens, and coin dispenser errors.
- Maintain awareness of scanning accuracy and basket-skip behaviors, addressing discrepancies professionally and per Walmart policy.
Qualifications & Benefits
Must be 18+ years of age for age-restricted item approvals. No prior retail experience required. Friendly demeanor, patience with technology-challenged customers, and strong situational awareness essential. Walmart offers competitive self-checkout host pay, flexible scheduling, associate discount, 401(k), stock purchase plan, health benefits, and advancement into front end team lead and customer service positions.
